Waiahole Poi Factory is a Hawaiian takeout restaurant that offers a straightforward but meaningful taste of local island cuisine in Kaneohe. Known mostly for its traditional Hawaiian plates, it provides hearty portions of Kalua pig, chicken long rice, laulau, and freshly milled poi, served in no-frills, cafeteria-style surroundings. The focus here is on authentic, familiar flavors rather than fancy presentation.

The atmosphere is unassuming and casual, with limited outdoor seating shaded by trees—a spot where locals often grab a quick, comforting meal or take their food to enjoy nearby beach areas. It’s common to find a light crowd around lunchtime, sometimes with a line, particularly because this place ranks high on the radar for those wanting an accessible introduction to Hawaiian comfort food.

Visitors who appreciate simple, well-prepared Hawaiian staples tend to enjoy Waiahole Poi Factory the most. The balance between the rich Kalua pig, the smooth poi, and traditional sides like lomi salmon or the seasonal haupia dessert delivers a taste profile that feels rooted in daily island life. Many diners come ready to try poi for the first time and leave having gained a new appreciation for this staple. If you’re craving something classic and satisfying—whether it’s a plate with two combo entrees or just a generous side of kalua pig—this place serves it up reliably.

The staff tends to move orders along quickly, making it convenient for takeout or a casual spot to eat outdoors. A local’s tip: arriving earlier in the day can help beat the lines and ensure popular items like poi are still available. The hint of island charm is palpable, from the steady presence of chickens pecking around the outdoor eating area to the sounds of locals coming and going, which gives the experience a relaxed, everyday kind of authenticity.

Waiahole Poi Factory is well suited for anyone looking to dig into traditional Hawaiian dishes without the fuss of formal dining. Whether you’re a visitor wanting a genuine taste of Hawaii’s comfort food or a local grabbing a familiar meal, this spot delivers simplicity and substance in a quiet Kaneohe setting.

Poi delivered on excellent pulled pork. It was perfectly seasoned and the flavor was excellent. Our food was quickly prepared for pickup. Outdoor tables in the shade were nice. Plenty of chickens taking care of clean up.

this place is soooo good!!! I got the Kalua Pig plate with Poi. Its my first time trying poi and I definitely recommend! There is limited seating outside but you can always take it and go sit at the beach! Friendly staff and fast service, definitely recommend!

Last day in Hawaii. So we wanted to stop by here. The food was pretty good. Got the Lao Lao plate. Was delicious my fiance didn't really get into it. But I enjoyed it.

This place is likely to have a long line when you arrive, as it is one of the most famous on the island and a stop on most tours. The food is worth standing in line! We had pulled pork with a kind of pico de gallo, and poi made from breadfruit that two people were pounding next to the kitchen. We also got the haupi or coconut pudding: coconut milk, sugar, cornstarch, in little squares. It is only a takeout place with picnic tables by the road. We then got a Sweet Lady for dessert: bread pudding with coconut ice cream that was delicious. What a fun meal of Hawaiian food!

This was an experience. Never had food like this before but i am always happy to try new things. It was different, but it was good! Seemed like a very healthy meal! We ordered a Squid Luau plate and a chicken bowl. Both were great, the ice cream that the plate came with was amazing! Id be giving this place a 5 star rating most days, but the day we went they were out of Poi at 11am and thats what i really wanted to try. If you’re interested in something different, this is your place.

This place slaps! Food is great and interesting as a tourist that's not familiar with the local cuisine. Cute place with a lovely crew on the side of the road. Parking was easy when I went at 2pm. Ice cream with taro was amazing!

The best way to describe this authentic island favorite is Hawaiian soul food. Cooked to perfection, the meats and veggies were fantastic. The portions were generous, and for the size and flavor, the price was very reasonable. Seating is outdoors only, which adds to the local vibe. For dessert, we had the Sweet Lady of Waiahole—absolutely amazing!
